About the Digital Divide

The digital divide is the economic, educational, and social inequalities between those who
have computers and internet access and those who do not.*

0
Households without a computing device
0
Households without an internet subscription
0
Households with a cellular data plan with no other type of internet subscription

(Source: 2023 American Communities Survey 5-Year Estimates)

These digital inequities disproportionately impact lower income households and communities that are predominantly Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities with lower educational attainment, and older adults (ages 65 years and older). In today’s society, a computer and reliable internet service are essential to accessing education, employment opportunities, healthcare services, financial resources, support networks, and commerce.
